OVERVIEW
The 4-day Mount Meru trek combines wildlife, stunning landscapes, and a rewarding summit experience. Starting in Arusha, the journey takes you through the lush trails of Arusha National Park, where you may encounter giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and waterfalls. The ascent passes through forests and dramatic ridges with views of the crater and Ash Tray, culminating in a midnight summit to Socialist Peak for breathtaking sunrise views of Kilimanjaro and the plains. While the trek spans 4 days, the full itinerary is 6 days, including arrival and departure, making it a perfect standalone adventure or acclimatization for Kilimanjaro.
DETAILED ITINERARY
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you’ll be picked up and taken to your hotel in Arusha. Rest and get ready for the adventure ahead. Spend the night at Venus Premier Hotel, Arusha.
After breakfast, drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park and begin your hike through lush trails with chances to spot giraffes, buffalo, and zebras. Pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall before reaching Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.
Hike along a steep trail with stunning views of the Mount Meru Crater and Ash Tray. Arrive at Saddle Hut and, if desired, take an acclimatization hike to Little Mount Meru.. Have an early dinner and rest for the summit attempt.
Begin your summit climb at 1:30 AM, passing Rhino Point and Cobra Point. Scramble along the rocky ridge to Socialist Peak at sunrise for breathtaking views. Descend to Saddle Hut, then continue to Momella Gate. Transfer back to your hotel in Arusha.
Descend from Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate, where a vehicle will transfer you back to Arusha. Spend the evening at Venus Premier Hotel, reflecting on your adventure.
Transfer from Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home, ending your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure. You can consider extending onto a magical Tanzania safari experience or rejuvenating on the sandy beaches of Zanzibar!
